A young Visually challengedBoy of 12 yrs was reffered by Rotary dist Avoidable blindness chairman Dr Ravikumar.M.V
The appeal came from the president of an Anglo-Indian community who was taking care of Master Dean, An Anglo-Indian boy in boarding school of low socioeconomic background.Master Dean had a heriditary condition that could be blinding in both eyes -A rare entity called Best dystrophy that damages the central part of your retina with egg yolk like deposition , blinding ones vision.
This condition could be vision threatening leading to varying presentation disintegratin and degenerating the retina.
The child had devoloped bleeding under the retina due to this condition.
He needed injection of Anti VegF which would cost almost 1,20,000 both eyes . A new treatment studied in a very few patients .
Arranging that much amount was a unimaginable task
We through Gurumangala eye foundation and Rotary AB foundation and Rotary platinum city could get the first injection for him , and next inj for other eye in one month Both at 55,000.
The child had a vn of 6/24 ie : able to read only 3 lines with difficulty .
On day 2 after injection ,YO behold, master Dean was able to read 6/9 partialy almost till 90%.
the response was very gratifying.
Hell be recieving the other inj in one month.
Wishing Dean in his journey to light in darkness .
Story 2:
My FriendRudresh from Rotary Metro and a BNI family member , had reffered his friends for a high-end cataract surgery , and had a gratifying experience .
He reached out to us with a concern. His friends employees mother , a daily wage worker , had severe full blown cataract both eyes and she had mild Cardiac issue making her unfit for routine camp surgeries also due to complicated cataract .
They had reached to another charitable hospital where they said surgery could be done but would cost atleast 25K.
Mr Hegde the owner of the company ,told us he could help upto 10 K only.
After getting cardiac evaluation, Mrs Shahin Begum ,aged 65 underwent a complicated cataract surgery , with a reddish-brown cataract that was very hard to remove . It looked like a brown red Mars . We implanted a imported foldable IOL, With Gurumangala eye foundation contributing to the additional 15K.
The happiness that Shahin and Master Dean expressed , having got vision from no hope , seems nobound .She was so happy to get full vision on day one itself.
